Four-year-old J’Len, who is battling cancer, had a simple request. “I wish to be a policeman like my daddy.” But the experience that he had on his wish day was much more elaborate than he ever imagined.
It all started with a ride to the police station in a police cruiser where he was deputized as an officer. J’Len was outfitted with a uniform and badge and put through some “tests.” Sirens blazing, he was off on a call – to find “Terrible Tom” at the Yacht Haven Grande. Once there, he jumped out of the cruiser and pointed out the suspicious character with a “That’s him.” After a fun foot race, he apprehended the suspect, cuffed him and escorted him to the police cruiser.
Back at the headquarters, J’Len fingerprinted and jailed the suspect. Then he was invited for a visit with the governor. In front of an energetic crowd, the governor presented him with a special award for his bravery. Afterward, the pint-sized police officer, his family, wish granters and others involved in granting his wish headed out to his favorite restaurant to refuel with a hearty meal. It was the perfect ending to his day as a policeman!
